Pragmatism
“We are pragmatists. We don’t stick to any ideology. Does it work? Let’s try it, and if it does work, fine, let’s continue it. If it doesn’t work, toss it out, try another one. We are not enamored with any ideology.” - Lee Kuan Yew
Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s elder statesman, was a practical man who believed in trying out new things to see if they worked. He was not afraid to start from scratch if something did not yield the expected results. This approach should be applied when adopting new technologies, tools, or frameworks. Trying out a Proof of Concept (POC) is a good way to test the waters before fully committing. If the POC yields positive results, then great. Otherwise, it’s time to move on and try something else. This pragmatic approach to problem-solving can be applied to many areas of life beyond just technology. It’s important to be open to new ideas and willing to adjust course if needed, rather than being beholden to the sunk cost fallacy.
